PCB Assembly Benefits
Image
Streamlined Production
Efficient to mass produce, PCBAs provide a cost-effective solution with quick assembly compared to conventional circuit connection methods.
Image
Simplified Design
PCBAs save space in the device by allowing all interconnections to take place on the board without the need for additional wires.
Image
Durable and Reliable Performance
All electronic components are soldered together, making them less likely to come loose and disrupt operation.
Image
Enable Easy Installation and Maintenance
Troubleshooting and maintaining PCBAs is convenient because all components are easily accessible and clearly labeled.
Get started
What does VCC’s PCB assembly process look like?
In order to get started, the customer provides approved files of the PCB design, including the exact placement of all components, as well as the copper tracks and hole layout. This finalized design is generated using a Gerber file, which is used to communicate the PCB specs for production.
Step 1: First Article PCBA

Providing a first article PCBA is a critical first step in ensuring design accuracy, quality, and performance of the boards. We make sure the boards pass validation before scaling to mass production.

VCC offers comprehensive full assembly capabilities, and the processes will vary by the materials and requirements of the project. Services may include pick and place, wave soldering, visual and optical inspections, washing, conformal coating, programming, and function testing (FCT) to ensure only reliable products are shipped to the customer.

Step 2: Evaluate the First Article (FA)

The next step is to test the custom FA PCB in an engineering lab. Our dedicated quality team inspects the PCBA, utilizing visual, automated optical inspection (AOI) and/or x-ray to detect any non-conformance issues: soldering, component alignment, or defects like voids or bridging.

We also provide customers with an optional production part approval process (PPAP) report or first article inspection (FIA) report for design verification and documentation of each component and its properties.

Step 3: Installing Firmware/Programming Prototypes

If the electronic circuit has programmable components such as microcontrollers and FPGAs, VCC will upload the firmware to the prototype. Our team will present the prototype with installed firmware to the customer for approval.

Not all PCB assemblies require firmware. If that’s the case, we skip this step and move into full production.

Step 4: Testing
Another critical step in the FA process is testing the boards to ensure they perform to the customers' specifications. This may include various methods for testing, such as functional testing along with a final visual and functional quality check.

Final Bill of Materials (BOM)
Step 5: Packaging, Shipping, and Delivery
The last phase of production is just as important as the first. Once our PCB assemblies pass through quality and functional testing, we carefully package and ship the order for on-time delivery. Headquartered in San Diego, VCC is a free carrier (FCA) so, you don’t have to import your products.

Step 6: Mass Production
When the first article has passed validation and VCC receives approval in writing, the project is ready for volume production. To minimize delays, with approval, VCC orders all materials upfront. This includes the PCBs as well as any other necessary components listed on the BOM to accelerate time to market.
