Philips Medical Selects VCC for New Series of CT Scanners

The use of the HMC 461 CTP lens with a 10mm VCC LED provides for optimal brightness and a wide viewing angle, which makes the lens easily viewed in a bright room. The lens and LED were combined with the CNX 460 LED cable assembly.

VCC’s solution functions as a status indicator for the patient who is being scanned. The patient is instructed to look at the indicator and not to move until the light is off. In Philips’ design stage, it was important to find a lens that was large enough for the patient to easily view, but it also needed to be aesthetic appealing. The HMC 461 CTP met the all of these requirements.

VCC Launches Flexfire™ Flexible Light Pipe Series

FLX Panel

VCC is pleased to announce the launch of the Flexfire™ series of flexible/fiber-optic light pipes.

VCC’s FLX Series Fiber-optic LED light pipes provide the simplest method of transmitting light from a PCB-mounted (Through Hole or SMD) LED to a front panel. Competing flexible light pipe products offer limited lens options for interfacing to the panel and LED. The FLX Series offers wider design capabilities for lens styles to include wide angle, moisture-sealed, and high profile.

Additional product specifications can be found on the VCC website.

Advantages over Traditional Copper Wire Solutions

VCC’s FLX Series flexible light pipes have many advantages over legacy copper wire solutions. These include but are not limited to:

  • Immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI)
  • Does not conduct or transfer electrostatic discharge (ESD) pulses
  • Non-conductive light path- pinching of copper wires has the potential to cause electrical shorting, which may damage components
  • No solder or crimp terminations
  • Single versus multiple conductors
  • Graceful degradation under “extreme” bending conditions
  • Diffused light output pattern – no hot spots or narrow field of view
  • Less components

If you would like to find out how to incorporate Flexfire™ into your design, feel free to contact us.

Recently, Germany’s Transportation Safety Administration developed a set of laws that provide for large transportation trucks to be accompanied by smaller safety vehicles in order to protect against accidents with other vehicles. These smaller safety vehicles were designed to include large LED displays on both the front and back of the vehicle, which serve the purpose of alerting traffic to the approaching hazard. For the LED displays, VCC’s CLR 301 CTP was chosen as the panel lens.

The CLR 301 is a low-profile, button-type lens that is designed for use with 5mm LEDs. It has a smooth, clean look with a convex shaped surface protruding above the panel. This minimizes the potential problem of snagging or other interference that might result from varying environmental conditions.

Those strategic relationships with our factory partners mean that SJS Products, a Jamcor Corporation, is poised to work with all our business partners in creating customized product solutions. We pride ourselves on being able to offer “specials” in situations where our competitors cannot. We believe that cost-savings can be best achieved through efficient engineering design coupled with strategic procurement practices including volume purchasing and Vendor Managed Inventory programs. If we can pool our resources to lower the cost of any given product, we can pass that savings on to our customers.
