LED Features and Characteristics for Mission Critical, Instrumentation and Industrial Equipment

LED lights have become an integral component for many different types of equipment in the commercial and industrial sectors. Light emitting diodes are a stable signaling platform and provide significant benefits as compared to traditional forms of lighting.  This is essential for commercial and industrial applications where longevity and replacement costs are controlled by budgetary considerations.

LEDs are utilized for functions such as ignition indicators, panel lights that signal when various machine functions are engaged, and directional lights that illuminate equipment panels to improve visibility for machine operators. They can also function as hazard or warning indicators, emergency lights, overhead lights and spotlights.  These functions are critical for workplace safety, and also for equipment maintenance and longevity.

Two key features of LEDs are their size and durability, especially under adverse temperature conditions.  LED lights can be manufactured in a variety of sizes to fit any particular machine or instrumentation panel, and provide a small form factor that can adapt to the smallest or most restrictive infrastructure.  These solid-state diodes are stable under extreme temperature conditions that would adversely affect the functioning of other forms of lighting.  LEDs also have a significantly improved lifespan as compared to halogen, fluorescent and incandescent lights.  These benefits can reduce machine downtime and associated maintenance costs, as well as improve operational efficiency.

Another important aspect of LEDs is that they can operate off of any power source.  They require low voltage and a constant current in order to operate at peak efficiency; thus, a power converter may be required in situations where current fluctuates.  This renders them an appropriate choice for portable equipment or equipment with a restricted amount of power.   LEDs are also highly energy-efficient; this enables companies to cut energy expenditures while improving productivity and reducing equipment maintenance costs.

LED lights emit very little heat and thus are well-suited to infrastructure locations where lights must be situated adjacent to cabling or wires.  The LEDs can also be dimmed, which is not always possible with other forms of lighting.  One final consideration is that LEDs can be manufactured in many different colors to suit any instrumentation or warning need; it is also possible to change the color emitted by the LED depending on the model selected.

VCC offers a comprehensive range of LEDs suited to industrial and commercial applications where efficiency and longevity are primary considerations.  LED lights are available in rigid and flexible models, and can be custom-designed to fit any geometric and optical requirements.  VCC’s engineers and technicians use cutting-edge technology to create and rigorously test LEDs to ensure quality and durability, and to meet accepted industry accuracy standards of ±0.2 mm.
